How to choose the right crib
-
Check storage needs
You should verify if the crib includes built-in drawers. The Graco Benton and Graco Hadley models both feature drawers for convenient organization. This eliminates the need to purchase separate furniture, saving floor space in your nursery. If you prefer a minimalist look without extra bulk, the Dream On Me Aden Mini Crib lacks drawers. Consider how much linens and clothing you need to store nearby. Integrated storage keeps essentials within reach while maintaining a clean aesthetic.
-
Compare convertible features
Look for a 5-in-1 convertible configuration if you plan to keep the crib for years. The Graco Benton, Graco Hadley, and Graco Tristan all offer this versatility. This feature allows the bed to transition from a crib to a toddler bed and beyond. The Graco Olivia is also convertible but focuses on solid wood construction. Check the product details for included conversion kits. This ensures you get maximum value from your purchase over time.
-
Measure room width
You must measure your nursery space before buying. Full-size cribs like the Graco Benton are 54.7 inches wide. The Graco Hadley is slightly wider at 54.8 inches. The Graco Tristan measures 55 inches across. For smaller apartments, the Dream On Me Aden Mini Crib is only 28 inches wide. Ensure you leave enough clearance for doors and drawers to open. Proper sizing prevents overcrowding and ensures safe access for you and your baby.
-
Review air quality
Check for Greenguard Gold certification to ensure low chemical emissions. The Graco Hadley and Graco Tristan both carry this certification. It indicates the product meets strict standards for indoor air quality. The Graco Olivia also holds this certification. This is important for nursery environments where infants spend most of their time. Verify the certification status in the product specifications. This helps you create a healthier sleeping environment for your child.
-
Assess material build
Determine if you prefer solid wood or standard construction. The Graco Olivia Black Solid Wood Crib uses solid wood for durability. This material often provides a more robust feel compared to composite woods. The other models use various construction methods to achieve their specific features. Consider the weight of the crib as an indicator of material density. Heavier models like the Graco Tristan weigh over 70 pounds. Thinner models like the Graco Olivia weigh under 37 pounds.
